HUDSON CLAVIN
PROVIDENCE DAY SCHOOL

Each year, the Charlotte Touchdown Club honors a student-athlete who has not only exhibited excellence on the field, but has also excelled in the areas of leadership, sportsmanship, scholarship, and citizenship as well. Chosen from over 100 exceptional student-athletes and high schools across the Charlotte region, the recipient truly stands out for their excellence and achievement.

Providence Day School’s Hudson Clavin exemplifies the true spirit of a student-athlete—driven, humble, and committed to excellence in everything he does. A senior defensive lineman, Hudson has been a vital force for one of the top programs in the country, helping lead the Chargers to two state championships and one state runner-up finish. As a key starter on the defensive front, he plays with relentless energy, strength, and discipline, anchoring a defense ranked among the best in the state. A two-time state champion and multi-sport competitor, Hudson has also placed twice at the state level in heavyweight wrestling, showcasing his power and athletic versatility. His team currently ranks No. 21 nationally, No. 1 in the NC/SC Top 25, and No. 1 in the Charlotte Observer Sweet 16, reflecting the culture of excellence he’s helped build at Providence Day.

On and off the field, Hudson’s character and leadership shine through. Known as a humble servant leader. Despite receiving interest from prestigious universities such as the University of Chicago, Harvey Mudd, and MIT, Hudson’s focus has remained on teamwork and collective success rather than personal accolades. His selflessness, consistency, and positive energy make him a cornerstone of the Providence Day football program.

In the classroom, Hudson’s academic achievements are equally remarkable. Maintaining a 4.2 GPA while taking 11 AP and 4 Honors classes, he has proven his dedication to academic rigor and intellectual growth. He is a member of both the National Honor Society and the National Latin Honor Society, and he has earned recognition as a multi-time Scholar Athlete. Hudson also scored an impressive 1480 on the SAT, underscoring his academic excellence.

Hudson’s leadership extends deeply into his school and community. As President of the Young Men’s Service League, he leads volunteer initiatives and motivates his peers to participate in service projects that impact the broader Charlotte area. Following Hurricane Helene, Hudson organized and directed a large-scale relief drive—collecting supplies, coordinating logistics, and personally transporting donations to affected areas. Additionally, he serves as a youth flag football coach, using his love for the game to teach and inspire younger athletes.

His innovation and curiosity are equally evident in his extracurricular pursuits. He gained hands-on experience through a summer internship with Axolo Health, working on FDA clinical trials, interviewing amputees, and using VR headsets to improve phantom limb pain treatment outcomes. His curiosity, leadership, and empathy drive his passion for using technology to serve others.

Respected by teachers, teammates, and coaches alike, Hudson Clavin stands out as a model of perseverance, intellect, and humility. His achievements across academics, athletics, and service reflect a rare blend of talent and integrity, inspiring all who know him. Hudson’s leadership and dedication leave a lasting legacy at Providence Day and exemplify what it means to be a true student-athlete.

The Charlotte Touchdown Club and Bahakel Sports are proud to recognize Hudson Clavin with the 2025 Student-Athlete of the Year Award.
