    The High School Female Flag Football Team of the Year Award is new in 2023 and honors a local area female flag varsity football team that has excelled on the field and in the areas of scholarship, sportsmanship, citizenship, and leadership.

    The recipient of the 2023 High School Female Flag Football Team of the Year Award is the Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology Cardinals.

    The entire Cardinals team exhibited true sportsmanship this season by winning and losing gracefully while respecting officials, opponents, spectators, and facilities. Upperclassmen mentored younger players and all participants displayed a “team first” attitude.

    Numerous team members showed outstanding leadership with participation in various school organizations and activities such as the CMS Athletic Honor Society, Brown Girl Big Things, HOSA, Communities in School, SAAC, and the African Student Union.

    Team members also distinguished themselves academically by being named to the A/B Honor Roll, National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, and Junior Marshalls.

    On the football field, the Cardinals earned several honors including the 2023 CMS Girls High School Runner-Ups with an 11-1 record, the 2023 Queen City Conference Champions, and the 2023 Queen City West Division Champions. Team members also played important roles in the success of numerous Phillip O. Berry’s athletic teams including Volleyball, Basketball, Cheer, and Dance.
