TAMARION WATKINS
LINEBACKER, NORTHWESTERN HIGH SCHOOL

The High School Leadership Award honors a senior player who demonstrates exceptional leadership on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. This year’s Leadership Award goes to Tamarion Watkins from Northwestern High School.

Leadership has always come naturally to Tamarion, who serves as an inspiring example of integrity, work ethic, and character. A senior linebacker and team captain, Watts has been one of the emotional and strategic leaders of the Trojans’ football program. A two-time All-Region, All-County, and All-Tri-County selection, he was also named two-time Defensive Player of the Year and a four-time WRHI Player of the Game honoree. His consistency and leadership helped Northwestern capture a state championship during his junior season, and his ability to motivate and unite his teammates has left a lasting impact on the program. Committed to continuing his athletic and academic career at Texas A&M University, Tamarion’s discipline and leadership both on and off the field make him one of the most respected student-athletes in the region.

In the classroom, Watts has maintained a 3.9 GPA, consistently earning a spot on the A/B Honor Roll and receiving the Academic Athlete Award for multiple years. He balances his demanding athletic schedule with academic excellence and is known for his curiosity and dedication in every subject. Teachers describe him as focused, articulate, and dependable—someone who uplifts those around him through his example. Tamarion’s leadership extends into the Leader in Me program, where he has completed three years of leadership training, serving as both a Squad Leader for Lifting and a mentor for younger athletes learning to balance academics, athletics, and responsibility.

Beyond the classroom and the field, Tamarion’s leadership shines through his commitment to service. He regularly visits local elementary schools to participate in Gameday Giveback assemblies, encouraging younger students to embrace the “Win Today!” mindset that defines Northwestern athletics. He also volunteers as a youth football coach, helping younger players build both skill and character. Through the F.E.L.L.A.S. (Fellowship, Excellence, Longevity, Leadership & Sustainability) program, he mentors younger students, especially within the African American male community, promoting educational success, teamwork, and positive representation. Additionally, Tamarion participates in community service projects such as Trunk or Treat, Challenger tutoring, and food drives benefiting local families. His compassion and integrity have made him a role model among peers and younger students alike.

Respected by teachers, coaches, and classmates, Tamarion is known for his humility, accountability, and unwavering commitment to growth. Whether he’s leading a defensive huddle, helping a teammate through adversity, or volunteering in his community, Tamarion approaches every task with focus and purpose. His influence reaches far beyond the football field, leaving a legacy of leadership that will continue to inspire others for years to come.

The Carolina Panthers and Charlotte Touchdown Club are pleased to present Northwestern High School’s Tamarion Watkins with the 2025 High School Leadership Award.
