The Charlotte Touchdown Club and the Michael A. Kahn Family Foundation are proud to present the Michael A. Kahn Community Service/Scholarship Award to the high school senior scholar-athlete who best exemplifies the spirit of community stewardship, academic excellence, and accomplishment on the football field. The recipient of this award demonstrated a commitment to the classroom, community, and athletics and will receive a $40,000 scholarship in $10,000 annual grants upon his continued community service and academic achievement in college.
The 2022 Michael A. Kahn winner goes to Joshua Crowder, a defensive end from South Point High School in Belmont, NC. Crowder is an excellent example of fair play and self-sacrifice for the good of his team. Crowder was originally a linebacker at South Point, but moved to defensive end when his team was in need. Crowder found his home at the defensive end position.
Crowder has been on varsity for three years and is a strong leader on the team. This is evident through being selected Varsity Captain and being a part of the SWAG Football Leadership Team (Spring Winter Accountability Group). Throughout his time playing defensive end, he has amassed 62 total tackles, 27 being solo tackles, and 7 sacks.
Not only is Crowder a leader on the field, but also in his community. Crowder is an Eagle Scout, which took many years of leadership and community service to achieve. For his final requirement to become an Eagle Scout, he had to plan and finish an Eagle Project. Joshua’s project was completing a portion of a large-scale community park renovation. This required Crowder to work alongside town managers, contractors, and other community organizers. Crowder planted 18 trees around the edge of the park. Throughout his time in scouting, Crowder has held many leadership positions as Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, and Chaplin.
Crowder also is a lifeguard at the community pool, helps out at youth basketball games at his local recreation center, and volunteers with the 3rd-grade class at his church on Sundays.
Crowder has also shown excellence in the classroom by his 4.563 GPA. He received an AP Scholar Award and is a nominee for the Morehead-Cain Scholarship, which is a full scholarship to UNC Chapel Hill. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
The Charlotte Touchdown Club and the Michael A. Kahn Family Foundation are proud to recognize Joshua Crowder as the Michael A. Kahn Community Service/Scholarship recipient for 2022.
