THE CITADEL’S WILLIE EUBANKS III

Bio: Willie Eubanks III, a Junior Linebacker for The Citadel, is from Augusta, GA. He is the son of Willie Jr. and Regina Eubanks and is majoring in business administration. The junior leads the team with 41 tackles, including 25 solo stops. He also had 4.0 tackles-for-loss, 2.0 sacks, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble return in 2019. Eubanks was recently selected as the Defensive Player of the Month for September in the Southern Conference.

Stats: 2018: he started all eleven games at linebacker and led the team with 80 tackles. He added 8.5 tackles-for-loss, 4.5 sacks, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries.

 

2017: Eubanks appeared in five games and registered 11 tackles, including 7 solo tackles and one tackle for loss. At Laney High School, Willie was a three-year letterwinner. He earned first-team all-region honors and was voted team’s MVP following his senior season. He also earned second-team all-region his Junior year.

 

The recipient of the Defender of the Nation Award will be announced on November 7th from one of the Nation’s (9) military academies and institutions including Air Force Academy, The Citadel, Coast Guard Academy, Naval Academy, Norwich University, Texas A&M University, Virginia Tech, VMI and West Point and is based on exceptional leadership qualities on the field, in the classroom and in the community. The recipient must also exhibit a high standard of integrity by leading through example.

In conjunction with the Football Writers Association of America, the 2019 Bronko Nagurski Awards Banquet will be held on Monday, December 9th at the Charlotte Convention Center.  In addition to honoring the Defender of the Nation Award winner, the banquet will celebrate the recipient of the Bronko Nagurski Trophy and Legends Award.  UCLA’s Jerry Robinson, a College Football Hall of Famer will be honored as the 2019 Legends Award recipient and Ohio State head coach Ryan Day is slated as the keynote speaker.
