Charlotte, N.C. (Sept. 22, 2021) – The Charlotte Touchdown Club today announced a major new partnership for The Defender of the Nation Award, which is presented annually at the Bronko Nagurski Awards Banquet.
“Thanks to the generous support of Capital Group of Companies and America’s Patriotic Dealerships, the Charlotte Touchdown Club looks forward to continuing its presentation of The Defender of the Nation Award,” said John Rocco Executive Director of the Charlotte Touchdown Club. “This award celebrates our nation’s military academies and their outstanding graduates who do so much to protect our freedom.”
The purpose of the award is to honor a defensive football player from one of the Nation’s Service Academies and Senior Military Colleges including: Air Force Academy, The Citadel, Coast Guard Academy, Naval Academy, Norwich University, Texas A&M University, Virginia Tech, VMI, and West Point. The recipient is selected based on academic, athletic and community achievements, but most importantly on exceptional leadership qualities on the football field, in the classroom and in the community. The recipient must also exhibit a high standard of integrity by leading through example.
“We’re extremely proud to sponsor The Defender of the Nation Award in conjunction with the Charlotte Touchdown Club,” said Rick Hughes, President & CEO of Capital Group of Companies. “We cannot think of a better way to give back than to honor those men and women that go above and beyond every day to assure our nation remains the land of the free. All gave some, some gave all. We are just giving some.”

About Veterans Bridge Home
Veterans Bridge Home connects Veterans and their families, in any state of transition, to the community. Through our network of partners, we help Veterans navigate employment, create social connections, and settle their families. We look at the whole Veteran and connect them to the resources needed to be successful and thriving leaders in our community. Veterans Bridge Home serves as an entry point for Veterans who don’t know where to turn to access support and services. Because Veterans return home to a civilian community and not to federal agencies or bureaucracies, each community must reach out and actively assist in the reintegration process alongside federal agencies such as the Veterans Administration. The Carolinas have the opportunity and privilege to help bring our nation’s warriors and their families home with the same energy and commitment that our Veterans have displayed in serving our nation. In so doing, ours will serve as a leader to inform other communities that wish to create more welcoming and livable communities for returning Veterans and their families.
