Charlotte TD Club & The Independence Fund Defender of the Nation Award Player Profile: Virginia Tech’s Reggie Floyd

VIRGINIA TECH’S REGGIE FLOYD

Bio: Reggie Floyd, a Senior Defensive Back for the Hokies, is from Manassas, VA. He is the son of Derek and Sonya Floyd and is majoring in human development. While attending Stonewall Jackson High School, Floyd was coached by Darryl Robinson and earned honorable mention honors to the 6A-North Region football team as a senior.

Stats: 2018: he ranked second on the squad with 88 total tackles, tied for second with 9.5 TFL, and 2 interceptions … ACC Defensive Back of the Week (10/1).
2017: He played in 13 games, making 12 starts … Totaled 72 tackles including 3 tackles for loss, 3 interceptions and 2 forced fumbles.

The recipient of the Defender of the Nation Award will be announced on November 7th from one of the Nation’s (9) military academies and institutions including Air Force Academy, The Citadel, Coast Guard Academy, Naval Academy, Norwich University, Texas A&M University, Virginia Tech, VMI and West Point and is based on exceptional leadership qualities on the field, in the classroom and in the community. The recipient must also exhibit a high standard of integrity by leading through example.

In conjunction with the Football Writers Association of America, the 2019 Bronko Nagurski Awards Banquet will be held on Monday, December 9th at the Charlotte Convention Center.  In addition to honoring the Defender of the Nation Award winner, the banquet will celebrate the recipient of the Bronko Nagurski Trophy and Legends Award.  UCLA’s Jerry Robinson, a College Football Hall of Famer will be honored as the 2019 Legends Award recipient and Ohio State head coach Ryan Day is slated as the keynote speaker.
