Roman Harper began his college career at the University of Alabama, where he became a standout safety for the Crimson Tide. A four-year letterman and three-year starter, Harper finished his Alabama career with 302 tackles, five interceptions, five forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and 3.5 sacks. He earned Second-Team All-SEC honors as a junior before being named First-Team All-SEC as a senior, establishing himself as one of the conference’s premier defensive backs. His combination of toughness, instincts and leadership made him a highly regarded prospect entering the 2006 NFL Draft.

Selected by the New Orleans Saints in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft, Harper quickly became a key member of the franchise’s defense. A physical and dependable safety, he developed into one of the leaders of the Saints’ secondary and earned consecutive Pro Bowl selections in 2009 and 2010. In the 2009 season, Harper helped lead New Orleans to a 13-3 record and its first Super Bowl appearance, where the Saints defeated the Indianapolis Colts 31-17 in Super Bowl XLIV. Harper’s playmaking ability, toughness and leadership were instrumental to one of the most successful periods in Saints history.

In 2015, Harper brought his veteran leadership and championship experience to the Carolina Panthers, joining a defense that would become one of the NFL’s best. He started all 16 regular-season games and played a vital role in helping Carolina post a remarkable 15-1 record and advance to Super Bowl 50. Although the Panthers fell to the Denver Broncos in the championship game, Harper’s impact extended well beyond the field, as he was respected for his leadership, preparation and commitment to his teammates. Over an 11-year NFL career, Harper established himself as a hard-hitting, intelligent safety and a leader on two Super Bowl teams.
