IOWA’S JEWELL IS BRONKO NAGURSKI NATIONAL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

DALLAS (FWAA) – Iowa middle linebacker Josey Jewell was a force all over the field the Hawkeyes Saturday, coming up with an interception, a fumble recovery, two pass breakups and a career-high-tying 16 total tackles despite a 21-19 loss to 4th-ranked Penn State. Jewell, a 6-2, 236-pound senior from Decorah, Iowa, made 11 solo tackles, three of them for losses. The 33-yard return off his fifth career interception led to Iowa’s first touchdown. Jewell now leads the Big Ten with 44 total tackles, and his season totals include two sacks, 5.5 tackles for loss, and four pass breakups, which tied for fifth in the conference. He has led Iowa in tackles in each of the last two seasons (126 in 2015, 124 in 2016), and his 345 career tackles already ranks 12th in program history.
